Kindergarten classes

About

The SHCC Kindergarten has been operating since May 2010; the funds for the construction of the Kindergarten building were kindly donated by an Italian Organisation ‘Annulliamo La Distanza’.

The Kindergarten is situated at the Self Help Community Centre (SHCC) in Totea Village, Kro Bei Riel Commune, Pouk District, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The SHCC Kindergarten provides free early learning and social development to 360 pre-school children aged between 3-6 years of age, from the 12 rural villages within the Kro Bei Riel Commune.

The SHCC Kindergarten aims to achieve the follwing outcomes:

  • Adequate supervision for children to ensure their safety and well being is taken care of while their parents are working

  • Opportunity for the children to socialise and interact with other children in their community

  • Promote and educate the children in hygiene, nutrition and environmental issues (which are all significant problems within the rural communities of Cambodia)

  • Provide daily nourishment to the children, to ensure their physical well being (poverty and lack of food is another significant issue for families in Kro Bei Riel)

  • Stimulate and develop the children’s minds through early learning (due to the significant poverty faced by the families in Kro Bei Riel, the children have no exposure to educational books, toys and other resources)

  • Prepare the children for entering primary education whether in the State School System or continuing on at SHCC when reaching the age of 6 years
