Art and Craft classes
About
The SHCC are currently looking at developing an Art & Craft Project encompassing:
-
Traditional/western dance
-
Basket weaving
-
Handmade designs
-
Paintings
The idea behind this is to harness the creative talents we have in our community, fostering the passion of the artists in our community. It will also provide a source of income for the SHCC School and for families within the Kro Bei Riel Community.
The first phase of the Project is the construction of an Art & Craft classroom at the SHCC premises in Totea Village. The second phase will be to select 30 students from the 12 villages within Kro Bei Riel Community with the aim to teach these students sustainable Arts & Craft practices in order to pass these skills onto their families and members of the wider community. This in turn will provide students with employment opportunities to support further education. The underlying purpose of this project is to establish a method of addressing the issues of poverty, lack of funding and education in rural Cambodia.
Through the provision of an Art & Craft at the school and within the community, the SHCC expect the following to be achieved –
-
For the SHCC to become an independent and self-sufficient Non Government Organisation through the production of art & craft and selling product at the local market
-
To assist the families of the children attending SHCC to acquire knowledge for producing Art & Craft products in order to allow independence and stability of their families livelihood
-
To provide continual education on Art & Craft at the school provided by skilled staff, allowing for future opportunities for the SHCC students who aspire to become Art & Craft teachers
-
Assisting to provide an income for those who are financially disadvantaged and cannot afford higher education
The SHCC believe this is achievable as they have built a strong reputation within the community due to their resilience in the face of adversity. The SHCC has a strong vision and the knowledge to achieve a sustainable community. At present they lack the funding for the resources required.

Sponsor
The Art & Craft Project is a particularly unique project as the funding proposal request is a ‘one off’ grant to set up an Art & Craft Market. SHCC aspire to develop a financial means that will ensure ongoing cash flow for its current proposed project and hopefully future projects. The set up will include the following resources:
-
Material for basket making, painting, dancing, as well as other projects
-
Tools and equipment needed for Art & Craft education
-
Building materials to construct appropriate homes and enclosures for the animals
-
Salary for a full-time Art & Craft educator whose tasks will include education, development, management, maintenance and overseeing all aspects related to the Art & Craft Project
If you would like to sponsor an Arts and Craft class you could make a difference in many students lives and it only costs a small fee of less than a dollar a day, please refer to the following flyer for more information that details possible payment methods and fundraising options. It has also been designed so it can be printed and distributed.
